Why should I use a Help Me Quit service?

This may be your first attempt at quitting smoking or you may have tried quitting before. Many people try to stop smoking on their own but research tells us this is the least effective way. Combining NHS help with a stop smoking medication is the best way of quitting.

(i) What is carbon monoxide screening?
Your stop smoking expert will ask you to blow into a small, hand-held device which measures the carbon monoxide level in your body. When you draw on a cigarette, carbon monoxide is absorbed into the lungs and the nicotine travels to the brain. It’s not unusual for smokers to have higher scores compared to a non-smoker from smoking. Measuring this score will help to motivate you and monitor your progress. Once they stop smoking within a matter of days these levels can go from high scores into a non-smokers score.
